Which model and size should I choose?

Start with size. The Sullivan is offered in 37mm and 42mm, the Algren and the Dixon are 40mm, and the Sandburg is 42mm, which makes the 37mm Sullivan the smallest case in the collection. The Sullivan is also the automatic, and the only model that carries the Casecap® system. The Algren, the Sandburg and the Dixon are quartz with a Swiss movement.

The Sullivan 42mm, Algren, Sandburg and Dixon all take a 22mm strap, so a strap bought for one fits the others. The Sullivan 37mm takes a 20mm strap.

Sullivan, 37mm and 42mm

The two sizes are the same watch at two scales, so the decision is about proportion on your wrist rather than about what the watch does. It runs automatically, with no battery, and it's the only Hampden with Casecap: a single twist swaps a sapphire exhibition caseback for a deeply engraved one, so the same watch can show its movement one day and carry an engraving the next. That's usually why people choose it when the watch is marking something. What is the Casecap system explains the mechanism and what's supplied with the watch. Algren, 40mm

A 40mm brushed stainless steel case, 10.7mm thick and 48mm lug to lug, with 22mm lugs. Quartz with a Swiss movement, under a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, and water resistant to 50 meters. The dial carries a date at 3 o'clock and Super-LumiNova, and comes in navy, carbon or white. The case comes in stainless, all gold or two-tone. It ships with a Milanese mesh metal bracelet and an Italian leather strap.

Sandburg, 42mm

A 42mm stainless steel case, 12mm thick and 51.5mm lug to lug, with 22mm lugs. Quartz with a Swiss movement, under a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Dials come in carbon and lake. It ships with a steel bracelet and an Italian leather strap. It's water resistant to 50 meters, the same as the rest of the collection.

Dixon, 40mm

A 40mm stainless steel case with a fixed bezel, 8.5mm thick and 47.5mm lug to lug, with 22mm lugs. Quartz with a Swiss movement, under a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, and water resistant to 50 meters. The dial is sunburst, with small seconds and a date at 6 o'clock, and comes in sage, onyx, cobalt or ruby. It ships with a Milanese mesh metal bracelet and an Italian leather strap.

Buying for a smaller wrist

The 37mm Sullivan is the smallest case Hampden offers and the place to start. After it come the 40mm Algren and Dixon, which suit plenty of wrists that find 42mm too much, and of those two the Dixon is the slimmer at 8.5mm, so it sits closest to the wrist and slides under a cuff most easily.

This question usually arrives as a question about a women's version or about sizes for slimmer wrists, and the honest answer is that the 37mm Sullivan is what the collection offers rather than a separate line. It's worth comparing lug to lug as well as case width, since that measurement decides whether a watch overhangs: 47.5mm on the Dixon, 48mm on the Algren, 51.5mm on the Sandburg. Moving bracelets and straps between models

The Sullivan 42mm, Algren, Sandburg and Dixon all use 22mm lugs, so bracelets and straps move between them. The Algren's Milanese mesh metal bracelet will go on a Dixon, the Sandburg's steel bracelet will go on an Algren, and a 22mm strap you already own will fit any of the four. The surest way to choose

See them. Appointments are held at our Chicago headquarters, and time with the collection on your own wrist settles the size question faster than any measurement will. You can try both Sullivan sizes side by side, look at engraving samples, and ask about anything the collection pages don't cover.
